Brazilian Zouk in Luxembourg
Brazilian Zouk first arrived in Luxembourg around 2016, introduced by Anna and Jani, and initially supported by Alkemia Dance School. After a quiet period—especially during the pandemic—the scene is now being revived by Manuela Ewert and Filipe Pereira, again under Alkemia Dance School. Our small but diverse community welcomes dancers from all over the world, and while the scene is still growing, it feels like a close-knit family.

Weekly beginner-friendly classes take place every Tuesday at 19:30, and everyone is welcome to join the movement and help shape the future of Zouk in Luxembourg!

What is Brazilian Zouk?
Brazilian Zouk is an expressive partner dance that originated in Brazil in the early 1990s. It evolved from Lambada—a dance that was wildly popular in Brazil during the 1980s—and was later influenced by other Brazilian styles as well as Caribbean Zouk music. As Lambada's popularity declined in the '90s, dancers began using slower, sensual Caribbean Zouk tracks to continue dancing, which naturally led to changes in the movement and musical interpretation. Over time, the dance transformed, adopting new techniques and creating a more fluid and versatile style. This modern evolution came to be known as Brazilian Zouk.

Brazilian Zouk is known for its smooth, flowing movements, head movements, body isolations, and strong connection between partners. It’s danced to a wide variety of music styles today, including R&B, pop, electronic and more. It is so influential that it inspired Bachata dancers to create Bachazouk.Today, Brazilian Zouk is danced and taught around the world—with a growing and welcoming community right here in Luxembourg. Whether you're new to dance or already experienced, Zouk offers a beautiful blend of connection, creativity, and musicality.BZDC
